Who founded the Museum of Northern Virginia?
The museum was founded by a group of Northern Virginia natives and lifelong history enthusiasts who wanted a better way to preserve and share the region's heritage. Starting as a digital museum lets them bring that history to everyone, anywhere, while working toward a future physical home.
What is the museum's mission?
The Museum of Northern Virginia exists to educate and inspire the public by highlighting the rich history of Northern Virginia and its lasting impact on American history. We connect communities with local historical societies, sites, and stories, and showcase culturally unique artifacts that reflect the region's diverse heritage. Through research, preservation, and public programs, we work toward creating a future physical museum space where this history can be experienced firsthand.

Do you accept artifact donations?
